MCIOB preparation

Prepare for your MCIOB route discussion

A practical checklist for construction professionals, with a work example and space to prepare your questions.

Start with your route, not a generic template

CIOB offers different routes according to qualifications and experience. Confirm your route and its current requirements with CIOB before preparing a submission. This independent preparation list helps you organise a discussion; it is not an official document checklist. CIOB: MCIOB.

Information worth having to hand

Illustrative example, not a client case

A construction manager faced a proposed handover before an outstanding quality issue was closed. A useful example explains the issue, who the manager consulted, the recommendation made, who held approval authority and how closure was verified. “I managed the project successfully” leaves these responsibilities invisible.

Try it with your own work

MCIOB is Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute of Building. CEng is a separate registration assessed against UK-SPEC. Preparing for one does not automatically meet the requirements of the other.
