What MCIOB is
Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute of Building
MCIOB is the Chartered Membership grade of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), recognising professionals in construction and construction management: delivery, quality, safety, sustainability and the management of the built environment.
It is a construction-management route. It is not an Engineering Council route and it is not the same as Chartered Engineer (CEng). Each is awarded by a different body, against different standards, for a different kind of work.

Some professionals fit Chartered Engineer, some fit CIOB Chartered Membership, and some could pursue either. The right answer depends on where your responsibility really sits, not on your job title.

Common questions about MCIOB
No. MCIOB is Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute of Building, in construction and construction management. CEng is UK professional registration for engineers, awarded by a licensed engineering institution against UK-SPEC under the Engineering Council. They are different frameworks and neither automatically converts to, or replaces, the other.
No. MCIOB is a construction-management chartered membership awarded by the CIOB. It is not an Engineering Council registration category.
Some professionals do, because the two recognise different things. Whether both fit you depends on your work and the evidence you can show for each. We help you think this through and confirm the requirements with each body.
